Integrations: Connecting Your Wistia Account

This article provides instructions to connect your Wistia account to Socialive. Integrating Wistia with Socialive allows you to send Socialive recordings directly to your Wistia account in a project named "Uploads," from where you can move the videos to the appropriate project.


To connect Wistia to Socialive, you need to:

  • be the Owner of your Wistia account. "Managers" and "Users" account types do not have access to create API Tokens.
  • be an Administrator in your Socialive account


Generating an API Token in Wistia

  1. In Wistia, go to Account > Settings and select API Access from the menu on the left.
  2. On the API Tokenspage, you can:
    • Use the Master Token to connect to Socialive. If so, click to Copy the Password value.
    • Create a new token. To create a new token, follow the steps below:
      1. Click New Token.
      2. Give your token a name. For example, "Socialive Uploads."
      3. Under Permissions, select the option to "Read, update, and delete anything."
      4. Click Create Token.
      5. Click to Copy the Password value of your new token.

Connecting Your Wistia Account

  1. In Socialive, click your initials to open the Settings menu.
  2. In the Settings menu, click Integrations.
  3. On the Integrations page, click Add Integration.
  4. Click Wistia.
  5. Give the integration a name (or use the default one) and click Save. Giving each integration a specific title may be useful when creating integrations of the same type for different departments. For example “Send to Marketing Wistia” versus the default “Send to Wistia.”

  6. Click New Authentication.
  7. Enter a name for your new authentication.
  8. Paste the Password value of the API Token in the Access Token field.
  9. Click Create
  10. A notification will appear to confirm the authentication was successful. Click Finish to complete the setup. Now you can send Socialive recordings to Wistia.

Sending Recordings to Wistia

Follow the steps in the article to send recordings to Wistia. When you send recordings to Wistia:

  • Make sure you have enough allocated storage space before sending your recordings.
  • You will receive email notifications when the upload is completed. 
  • The file will upload into a project named "Uploads on YYYY-MM-DD." The file can then be moved to the appropriate project.
  • The upload time will vary, but most files will complete within 15 minutes. However, additional time may be needed for the video to process in Wistia.
