Within the Studio, Producers can designate an additional host for specific studio sessions. This feature allows more than one person to be designated as a session host. Use this feature for reviews, to divy up the workload or to add a backup in case the main producer loses their connection.
In this article, we will review the steps to add an additional host to a Studio Session.
Prerequisites
To add additional hosts to your session, you must be a Socialive administrator or producer in your Socialive account.
Process
You can assign an additional host by adding them to your session and promoting them to be an additional host from the list of sources in your session. Below are characteristics to note for an additional host in Studio.
Users must have a producer or admin account-level role to be promoted to additional host in Socialive Studio.
Each studio session can have as many additional hosts assigned as needed.
Only one person at a time may be in the session as the host.
Once an additional host has been added to a session, the session will appear under the join a session tab for all potential hosts, not my sessions.
Assigning an Additional Host
In Socialive Studio, click the arrow for the live source that will be added as an additional host and confirm a check has been added next to Additional Host.
Once the additional host has been added to the session, when the additional host opens Socialive, they will see the session available after clicking into “Sessions” on the left-hand side of the screen
The additional host clicks join as guest then confirms if they are joining as a host or guest
If another host is already in the session when they decide to join as a host, the host in the session will be prompted to allow the new host entry. If they allow entry, the original host will give up host responsibility to the new host, and their session window will close.
If no host is currently in the session, or if the current host cannot answer the prompt, the new host will enter the session once a connection to Studio is established and be able to run the session as host.
Once the additional host has entered the session, they can produce it as they usually would if they had created it. Note that overlays used in the session will appear in the new Session Overlays tab in the overlays ribbon for all hosts; they are not automatically added to a new host’s personal library of overlays.
Benefits
The ability to add an additional session host provides the following benefits:
Quality reviews - A producer can set up the session, and a teammate or manager can review the session set up in advance of the live session
Split the workload - A producer can set up the session and run the show beforehand, while the additional host can run the livestream or recording.
Safety levers - If the original producer's computer or internet connection fails, another producer can take over the session.
Managing group recording sessions - If a new producer takes over a project, the session setup and content can be shared; they don’t need to be recreated.
FAQ
How many people can I add as Additional Hosts to a single session?
The number of hosts is not limited. You are only limited by the number of users with sufficient permissions in your account.
