Studio Role: Guest Director

The Socialive Green Room is a safe, distinct space behind the scenes, separating what the audience sees from the work that goes into delivering a quality experience. The Guest Director role provides the option to include people in the Green Room who are not usually on camera, but can contribute to the content and help out in other ways - for example you might want someone to join in this role as a PR or communications specialist, technical support, or as an expert who contributes to the content but is not on camera.

This article provides an overview of what that role can do and the steps to assign the Guest Director role to your guests.

Prerequisites

To assign the Guest Director role to your guest(s), you must be a Session host, which requires you to be a Producer or Administrator in your Socialive account. Multiple guests can be assigned the Guest Director role.

What can a Guest Director do?

The following capabilities are available to Guest Directors

  • A Guest Director's microphone will remain unmuted throughout the session so they can talk to everyone, on or off-camera. Guest Directors can cue guests when it's time to go live or answer any questions.

  • A Guest Director can navigate any slide shares during a Session, whether or not they originally shared them.

  • A Guest Director can have their video and audio source added to a Scene, or share their screen or slides like any other Guest. To do so, they are simply added to a scene and recorded.

How do I assign this role to someone?

Producers can assign the Guest Director role to guests with a Socialive account when building out Scenes and the run of show before a session. Note that if this is the guest's first time in Socialive, the Producer will have to wait until the guest's account is created to assign them the Guest Director role.

Assigning the Guest Director Role to a Guest

  1. Hover over the Guest you want to assign the role to and click the dropdown.

  1. Select Guest Director to assign the role.

  1. A badge will appear to identify them at the bottom-right corner of their video feed, and they will immediately have access to the Guest Director capabilities.

Reminders

  • Guest Directors are identified by a badge at the bottom-right corner of their video feed, next to the health indicator in the Green Room.

  • The Guest Director's badge is also shown at the bottom-right corner of their video feed on the Live Sources panel in Socialive Studio.

Removing the Guest Director Role from a Guest

  1. Hover over the Guest Director you want to remove the role from and click the dropdown.

  1. Select the Guest role to remove the Guest Director role.

  1. The badge will be removed from the bottom-right corner of their video feed, and they will immediately be restricted from access to the Guest Director capabilities.
