Microphone and Accessory Options for iOS Device Recordings

This article lists microphone and hardware recommendations configurations that Socialive recommends for use with the Socialive Mobile app.

Options for Capturing producer-led recordings with Guests in the Green

Room

Most headsets that include a speaker and microphone will provide quality audio for participants using the Socialive Mobile app or the Recording Booth. The device must also include audio input and output so that the guest can hear the producer and other guests in the green room.


Options for Capturing Solo-Recordings in the Socialive Mobile Recording

Booth 

Since the mobile recording booth is a solo recording experience, speakers can use most microphones that are compatible with iOS.


Note—Microphones without built-in headphones are only compatible with the Recording Booth. For producer-led recordings, a 2-in-1 headset or one of the advanced options below should be used.

Advanced: High-quality Microphone Options for iOS Device Recordings (Green Room and Recording Booth)

A wide range of audio equipment can enhance the audio of your iOS recordings. Below are varying options for audio equipment that have been proven to work well with the Socialive iOS app. 


High Quality Setup (Basic)

Setup Instructions 

  1. Plug the AYL speaker into the iRig 3.5mm output (on the other side of the iRig headphone jack)

  2. Plug in the iRig Mic 3.5mm headphone jack into the lightning adapter

  3. Plug the lightning adapter into the iOS device


Higher Quality Setup (Mid-range)

Setup Instructions 

  1. Install a 12V battery into the Linkflex

  2. Plug the AYL speaker 3.5mm jack into the headphones out of the Linkflex

  3. Plug the Linkflex 3.5mm jack into the lightning adapter

  4. Plug the Comica Phantom Microphone into the Linkflex XLR plug

  5. Turn the Linkflex gain dial down (the microphone should be loud enough)

  6. Make sure the Linkflex left-hand switch is on the smartphone icon (not on the ‘MIC’ side)

  7. Make sure theLinkflex output designator switch is on the smartphone icon side (not the camera icon)

  8. Turn the Linkflex power switch to the PH position (right) - the PH processing is required


Highest Quality Setup (High-end)

Setup Instructions 

  1. Install a 12V battery into the Linkflex

  2. Plug the AYL speaker 3.5mm jack into the headphones out of the Linkflex

  3. Plug the Linkflex 3.5mm jack into the lightning adapter

  4. Using a double-ended headphone jack (one is provided with the Rode Wireless; it has a red cord), plug one end into the Rode Wireless base unit and plug the other end into the 6mm adapter

  5. Plug the 6mm jack into the Linkflex microphone input

  6. Turn the Linkflex gain dial down (the microphone should be loud enough)

  7. Make sure the Linkflex left-hand switch is on the smartphone icon (not on the ‘MIC’ side)

  8. Make sure the Linkflex output designator switch is on the smartphone icon side (not the camera icon)

  9. Turn the Linkflex power switch to the ON position (middle) - the PH processing should not be necessary
