Background Music Available in the Socialive Editor

In the Socialive Editor, you can add music to your video. Adding background music provides many benefits, including:

  • Creating emotion: Music can add emotion to your message and help you convey the feeling you want your video to create.

  • Setting the pace: Music can drive your video forward and set the pace.

  • Making your video more engaging: Music can make your video more interesting and memorable and help viewers stay focused on your message.

  • Adding texture and depth: Music can add texture and depth to your video and help viewers be more attentive.

This article will review the steps to add background music to your video in the Socialive Editor. Background music applies to the whole video - if you want to add music to individual scenes, use the overlays feature to add audio.

For best results, add and adjust background music as a final step in your editing process after you have assembled and clipped all the scenes you will use. Be sure to use the preview feature in the Editor to ensure the music behaves as expected.

  1. In the Editor, click Music in the left navigation menu.

  1. Click + Music.

  1. Upload your background track or use one of the provided royalty-free tracks. You can listen to the track in the media picker tool before selecting it.

    • If you upload copyrighted material, we assume you have the rights to use it in your video.

    • The Editor supports one background track per video.

    • .mp3 and .mp4 (video file) formats are supported; if a video file is selected as background music, only the audio is used. To use a video file as an overlay in a scene, [read this article]

    • Background music tracks cannot be trimmed or cut in the platform but can be looped or faded.

  1. The background music can be further adjusted once the selection has been made.

    • The track can be replaced or removed.

    • The volume can be adjusted to complement any other audio sources used in the video. The initial volume is 25%, appropriate for a background track. It can be adjusted, but volume cannot be amplified or increased beyond the original volume of the track when it was added.

    • The playback setting can be set to loop or play once. Loop is the default when selecting background music.

      1. Loop - if the track is shorter than the video, it will repeat until it is finished. When the video ends, the track will stop when the video stops.

      2. Play once - the track will stop when finished, and if the video is longer than the track, the video will continue.

    • By default, the music will start at the chosen volume and play at that volume until it is complete. However, a duration can be set for fading the music in and out, allowing for a polished final video edit. If set, the Editor will automatically fade the music into the desired volume over the chosen duration (initially 5 seconds, but this can be adjusted) and fade it to silence over the same chosen duration. If the music is set to loop, the fades will occur at the beginning and end of the video. There will be no fade between each loop.

  1. Click play to view the scene preview with background music or preview to view the final video file, including background music and transitions.
