Socialive Editor Technical Details

This article outlines technical details for running the Socialive Editor effectively on your device. Understanding these details ensures your system is up to par and avoids potential performance issues. Let’s explore what you need to get started and make the most out of your Socialive Editor experience!

Editor Performance in the Browser

The Socialive Editor uses your browser to keep track of “edits in progress” as you work on your video. Once you have completed your edits and selected Send to Library, the rest of the work to create your final video is done as part of a processing queue in the Socialive cloud, and your browser is no longer impacted.

The longer your source video is, the more work your browser needs to do to support your edits. If you have other tabs open or other applications running besides your browser, you may notice sluggish behavior while you have edits in progress on longer videos.

For videos with longer durations, we recommend closing other browser tabs and applications. It’s also a good idea to focus first on the primary clipping operations you want to break up the long video into more manageable segments, then send those to the library and re-open the newly created video segments in the editor one at a time.

Transcribing Long Videos

The longer your source video is, the longer it will take to get the voice-to-text transcript in the text panel and the word ribbon the first time you edit it.

If the video is more than 4 hours in duration, the transcription service will not be able to provide voice-to-text transcription. In this case, you can still use the Socialive Editor but not the text panel until you’ve clipped your video to a shorter duration.

If the video is shorter than 4 hours but the file is large enough (more than 2GB), Socialive will automatically extract the audio and send only that to the voice-to-text service to ensure successful transcription. When the operation completes, you will be able to download the caption and transcript files as well as the audio (.mp3) file.

Clips and Scenes

The Socialive Editor can handle a maximum of 50 scenes in a single composition.

Each clip can be up to 90 minutes long within a single scene, with a total combined maximum duration of 4 hours per scene. These limits exceed the recommended best practices for working with the Editor in your browser—they are hard limits rather than just best practice recommendations.

These limits don't apply to trimming the beginning and end of a scene only - they are only relevant when creating multiple clip segments in a very long scene.

Other Known Constraints

  • You cannot upload a file larger than 1TB to the Socialive portal, although a space or an account can have more than that in total aggregate file size stored.
