Socialive for iOS: New start and stop controls for HD recordings and 4K

Socialive Update • February 2022

We want to make sure capturing HD recordings of your guests is a seamless and intuitive process. With our latest iOS release, we’ve introduced a few updates to improve the process and experience:

  • Improved recording workflow so you’re only capturing content you need

  • Ability to record in 4K

  • Intuitive UX changes

The release is available to download in the App Store.

Capture the HD content you need

This release introduces an improved recording process to save time on your post-production workflows. We’re now able to start/stop HD recordings right in the iOS Green Room. This means:

  • Guests no longer have to choose the type of recording before they join a broadcast. So, it’s a seamless experience for them to join the Green Room and the producer can just guide the guests from there.

  • Guests can now start and stop the HD recording for each take during their session. This allows you to only capture the content you need, instead of also recording prep time.

  • As a result, Socialive producers can view all recordings and quickly identify the appropriate segments in the Socialive Library, without having to worry about sifting through extra footage in one long recording.

  • As an added bonus, producers can worry less about guests’ iOS storage space as you’re only capturing shorter segments.

Record in up to 4K

You can have your guests choose between 1080p HD or 4K capture for their local recordings, regardless of the guests’ network conditions during your session.

The app will also automatically inform the guest how many hours of recording they can do, based on the recording quality chosen.

Refined Guest Experience

This release introduces two UX tweaks so guests can better focus on delivering quality content during a broadcast.

Toggle backstage guests

iOS devices are often a great choice to capture videos as the cameras are high in quality. However, the limited screen real estate can be tricky. Now, we’ve allowed for a setting to automatically view or hide backstage guests during a broadcast. This is a great option for broadcasts with many guests in the Green Room so that presenters can focus their attention on other presenters.

Energy saver mode

The intention of Energy saver mode is to optimize performance across a broad range of devices and network conditions. This release introduces an improved UX so your guests don’t get confused if their device does fall into energy saver mode. With this release, the guest camera feed will remain in view, while the rest of the participants’ feeds revert to showing their names. Your guests’ devices will maximize bandwidth or device CPU but the guests’ will visually be reassured they are still in the broadcast.
