The Socialive mobile app allows you to capture high-quality, full-HD recordings of your guests. Full-HD (1080p) video is captured directly on the guest's device and automatically uploaded to your Socialive Recordings Library after the broadcast. Your guests won't need to download or transfer any large files manually - Socialive takes care of it.

When recording in full-HD quality:

  • The maximum full-HD recording length is 90 minutes.

  • Your guest's video feed will still be recorded in the cloud in standard quality, but a full-HD version will also be recorded temporarily on their device, which will be processed and uploaded after the broadcast ends.

  • Since the video does not have to travel over the Internet, the recording will be on HD 1080p quality without any distortions from bandwidth limitations that can affect the resolution, bitrate, and overall video quality.

  • Once the recording finishes uploading, the video will be removed from the guest's device, and no longer take up their device's storage space.

This article provides the steps for guests to join your broadcast and record their video in full HD (1080p).

To join a broadcast as a guest, you need to have:

Joining a Broadcast and Recording in Full-HD

        • Show guides: When enabled, guides will appear on the screen to help position yourself within the frame.

      • Adjust Settings: Drag the dials to adjust your brightness, temperature, and saturation. By default, auto-adjustment is enabled.

    • Back: Tap to exit the Green Room lobby.

  10. Tap Join Green Room. As soon as you join the green room, Socialive will start recording your feed, which will be uploaded to the Recordings Library.

  11. Welcome to the Green Room. This is where you can see and interact with the producer and other guests. Notice the badges next to your nameplate. If you are a guest director, you will see the shield star badge, and since you selected to record in full HD, you will see the HD badge as well.

  12. Tap on the hang-up icon to leave the broadcast. The recordings page will appear. Wait for the recordings to finish uploading and do not close the app. Once the recordings are uploaded, they will start processing. You do not need to keep the app open while it's processing.

Overview of Green Room Functionalities

In the Green Room, you will be able to see other guests and the producer in the gallery view. You can also do the following:

  • Tap on the Guest icon to see the Guest List. From here, you can tap on a guest's name to pin or maximize their video or tap on the speaker icon next to their name to mute them (to yourself only).

  • Tap on the message icon to open the chat. This is where you can communicate with the producer and other guests in the Green Room.

  • Tap on the Health Status monitor to see your health stats. The health monitor shows 5 different statuses: Great, Good, Okay, Poor, and Bad, depending on the quality of your video feed. Tap on the health monitor icon to see other stats such as your Frame Rate, Resolution, and Bitrate. You can also enable the stats to appear in the status bar, or enable Energy Saver mode. When Energy Saver mode is turned on, you will only see your own video feed, and all other participants will be audio-only to conserve resources on your device.

  • Tap on the end call button to leave the broadcast. This will prompt you to confirm that you want to leave the broadcast.

  • Switch Camera: Tap to switch between the front and back camera of your device.

  • Tap the microphone icon to mute and unmute yourself throughout the broadcast. This will mute you to other guests in the Green Room and the audience if you are live.

  • Tap the settings icon to access the advanced settings. These are the same settings you have access to from the Green Room lobby.

Recommended Devices for Full-HD Recordings

The following devices are recommended for full-HD recording:

  • iPhone X

  • iPhone XS/Max

  • iPhone 11

  • iPhone SE2

  • iPhone 12

  • iPhone 13

  • iPad 7th Gen and above (released 2019 or later)

Older iPhone models (6, 7, 8, XR) may be used. However, given their limited processing power, guests may enter Energy Saver mode quickly after joining a broadcast and/or face other issues. It is highly recommended to test recording on those devices before the actual recording or broadcast.
